Rachel Joan Conn

Mrs. Rachel Joan Conn passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the age of 76.The oldest child of Ray Edward and Nell King Douglas, Joan was born in Guntersville in 1946. Though her father’s military career required her to live in places like California, Alaska and Tripoli, Libya, she always called Guntersville home. Joan married Erving Conn in 1966 and together they had 3 daughters. An avid bowler for many years, she was inducted into the Marshall County WBA Hall of Fame for Superior Performance in 1995 thanks to her perfect 300 game. She loved to play scrabble and even appeared on Scrabble, the game show,hosted by Chuck Woolery. She spent many hours each week with friends at the Guntersville Senior Center playing cards until her health wouldn’t allow her to play. Joan was an ardent reader with Holy Scripture and The Bible being her favorite subjects. She loved people and people loved her. Joan leaves behind her daughters, Angie Hotalen (Bill) of Attalla, Julie Cole (Beau) of Huntsville, son in law, Tim Bice of Guntersville. Grandchildren, Lauren Bice Williamson (Chuck), Jacob Bice (Ashley), Carlye Bice Hamn (Will), Abby Bryant (Ben), Will Hotalen, Conner and Cade Thomas Cole. 9 great grandchildren, Hunter Holdsambeck, Graham Williamson, Reese, Betsey and Emmalyn Bice, Mary, Caroline and Jenny Hamn, and Harris Bryant. Sister, Gigi Quick (Matt) and brother, Eddie Douglas. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Erving and her beloved daughter, Jennifer Bice. Her family wishes to thank the many wonderful caregivers from Bridgewood Gardens and Shepherd’s Cove who took the best care of their dear Joan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Henryville Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services. Burial will follow at Diamond Cemetery. Officiating: Pastor Kevin Asbury and Bro: Barry Hallman In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shepherd’s Cove of Marshall County.
