Mr. Jack Powers

Jack Powers, a beloved resident of Guntersville, Alabama and Cherokee Ridge, Alabama, passed away on May 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack was born and raised in Alabama, attending Shades Valley High School where he graduated with the class of 1956. His thirst for knowledge led him to the University of Alabama, where he became a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. His time at the university not only enriched his education but also fostered his lifelong friendships and cherished memories. At the University, Jack crossed paths with his true love, Carmen (SuSu) Finlay. Their connection was instant, leading to a beautiful union that spanned 52 years until her passing in 2013. Their love was a testament to commitment, loyalty, and unwavering devotion, inspiring all who knew them. Born and raised in Alabama, Jack’s journey in the business world began alongside his father at the Mark Powers & Co in Birmingham Al. Jack eventually relocated the business to Guntersville, SuSu’s hometown where it flourished as a crucial supplier to the soft drink industry throughout the southeast. Throughout his career, Jack’s contributions to the industry were widely recognized and was honored with the Distinguished Service award by the Alabama Bottler’s Association. Jack’s passion was characterized by his passion for his community and his dedication to his family. He was known for his generosity, kindness and unwavering support of those around him. Beyond his professional endeavors, Jack was involved in his community. He was a proud member of the Guntersville Rotary Club and for three decades dedicated himself to the Guntersville Industrial Board. His dedication did not go unnoticed. He was honored with a proclamation from the City of Guntersville, recognizing his service and additionally by the Alabama Lieutenant Governor’s office, Will Ainsworth. Jack also served his community as Chairman of Citizen’s for Legal Control, playing a pivotal role in the area’s growth. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Guntersville and a member of the Ed Scruggs Sunday School class. Jack also served on the board of directors for Home Bank in Guntersville. Jack’s dedication to the community was matched only by his devotion to his faith and his love for University of Alabama football. As a loyal fan, he attended countless games over the years, cheering on his team with unwavering enthusiasm. Throughout his life, Jack touched the hearts of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. His legacy of service and love with inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Jack was preceded in his death by his of wife of 52 years Carmen (SuSu) Finlay Powers, his parents Mark A. & Alice Schween Powers of Birmingham, his sisters Patricia (Eddie) Echols of Birmingham and Barbara (Sam) Acquisto of Birmingham and Texas. He is survived by his daughters Jenny Powers (Neal Light) and Pamela Powers Allen of Guntersville and his grandchildren Chelsee Allen and Andrew Allen (Tristen White) of Guntersville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Jack is survived by his dear love, Martha Bradford of Birmingham whose companionship brought joy and comfort to his later years. Services will be held June 8, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Methodist Church in Guntersville. Visitation/Celebration of Life will follow at Cherokee Ridge Country Club in Cherokee Ridge, Alabama.
