March 20, 1948 - June 3, 2019
Samuel Travis Butler, age 71, joined his Heavenly Father on June 3, 2019, leaving behind his loving wife, Claudette; children, Teri Nicole Sawyer, Michael Craig Butler (Karen), Lisa Renae Love (Mike); step-children, Mike Hallman, Andrea Armstrong, Matt Hallman; grandchildren, Abigail Sawyer, Jake Sawyer, Isabella Sawyer, Ashlyn Butler, Sage Butler, Whitney Somerville (Morgan), Montana Armstrong; sister-in-law, Judy Butler and her daughter, Liz Butler Matthews (Brian) and Great Nephews, Will and Cade Hamm. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Clorene Butler and older brother, James A. Butler and his former wife, Diane Butler. After graduating from Marshall County High School, Sam enlisted in the Army serving three years as a medic and communications chief and honorably discharged in 1971 as a Specialist 5. He later successfully owned and managed Butler Rubber Products working with silicone for thirty two years before selling the business. Sam became a Master Mason April 17, 1975 and was a Master of the Lodge in 2009/2010 and secretary afterward. He became a Shriner at Zamora Shrine in Birmingham in November, 1981. He joined Cahaba Shrine In Huntsville and remaining membership with both serving Marshall Shrine Club as president and secretary. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and served as the Director and Impresario. Sam was a member of the Dixie Shrine Association from 2012, president 2015/2016, Webmaster 2015 to present. As a Shriner, Sam enjoyed tying animal balloons for children and squeaking their toes making them think their shoes were squeaking, just trying to make the children happy. He enjoyed having a nice yard and enjoyed the beauty of nature, waterfalls, our beautiful Guntersville State Lodge and the last few weeks, looking over the lake from his back porch. Sam repeated many times that when he only asked God to have His will in his life and give him whatever He wanted him to have and take away what He didn't want, life became more abundant than he would ever have dreamed. Sam loves God with all his heart. In lieu of flowers, Sam has asked donations be made to Shepherd's Cove Hospice, 408 Martling Rd., Albertville, AL 35951 or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, C/O Cahaba Shrine, P O Box 3388, Huntsville, AL 35801.
