Ronald Leroy Smith

July 5, 1948 - June 3, 2020

Ronald Leroy Smith 71 of Arab passed on the 3rd day of June 2020 at his residence. Ronald was born on the 5th day of July 1948 in Chicago, Ill. to Mr. Raymond Burton Smith and Mrs. Grace (Beningo) Smith who preceded him in death. Ronald was also preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Ruth Ann (Henderson) Smith of Arab and older brother Raymond Smith Jr of Glen Mills PA. Mr. Ronald Smith is survived by his sister Francis Draginis of Minnetonka, MN and brother Richard Smith and sister-in-law Brenda Smith of Hammond, IN.; sister-in-law Isabel Smith of Glen Mills, PA.; daughter Tammy Gill and son-in-law David Gill of Guntersville, daughter Shannon Moore and son-in-law Phillip Moore of Huntsville, daughter Julie Smith's of Arab and son Nelson Smith and daughter-in-law Amanda Smith of East Hampton, CT.; as well as 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Ronald Smith was inducted into the United States Armed forces on the 8th day of January 1969 where he served as a Communication Central Specialist in Vietnam until his Honorable discharge on the 10th day of March 1971. Upon his discharge he was awarded the National Defense service medal along with the bronze service star and several other medals and ribbons for his exemplary service during wartime. Mr Smith spent the remainder of his professional civil career in the media industry as a pre-press publishing and image designed technician with Ebsco Media in Birmingham, AL. until his retirement. Mr. Ronald Smith will be cremated with a memorial service to be announced at a later date. Thanks to The Guntersville Memorial Chapel for their assistance to the family with the final arrangements.
