Matt Cooper

Doran Matthew Cooper “Matt”, age 58, of Eva, AL passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on Friday, June 10, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born in Flint, Michigan on May 27, 1964. Matt married Duree Lynn Warren on December 3, 1985 and raised two strong, loving children. He worked for the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office as Chief of Corrections in Guntersville, AL. In 2019 Matt used his 20 years of experience in jail management to take charge of a broken jail and made the changes implemented here today. He worked at all levels in corrections and developed leadership skills to gain compliance from inmates. Chief Cooper worked with other agencies on inmate admissions and played a significant role in finding ways to purchase a body scanner with thermal heat detection. Matt loved his Harley. He and Duree went on many benefit rides with friends. It was his “wind therapy.” If not riding he was fishing, boating and spending time with his grandbabies. He was an avid Auburn football fan. Matt was preceded in death by his parents: June (Cull) George, Doran Lee Cooper; brother: Kenneth William Cooper. He is survived by his wife: Duree; son Dustin Alan (Natasha) Crowe; daughter Nicole Elise (Michael) Casey; sisters Roberta “Bobbi” Dean; Mary (Greg) Michnick; brothers Eric (Karen) Randau; twin brothers Charles “Chuck” (Natalie) Randau; John (Debbie) Randau; grandchildren: Mason and Parker Crowe; KateLynn and Alek Thompson; Lexi, Hayden, Maggie Casey; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Guntersville Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Immediately following, Chaplin Richard Bartley officiating along with Mark Heard for the Celebration of Life. A reception will be held at Lake Guntersville State Park pavilion.
