August 15, 1950 - July 15, 2020
James Marcus Martin, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and accomplished centerpiece of every conversation he took part in, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 11:57pm. Marcus was considered a friend by many and a stranger to few. His love for tractor trading, farming and general storytelling will always be remembered. He married the one and only love of his life, Vickie Watkins, 51 years ago, with whom they had two Children, Cindy Martin-Minshew (Mark) of New Brockton, AL and Scott Martin (Charity) of Guntersville, AL. The “pride and joy” of his life was his five grandchildren (Jake Harbin, Haley Martin Gary, Lucas Harbin, Brooks Martin & Thatcher Martin) and two great-grandchildren (Raelyn and Riley Gary). He excelled at trading tractors and telling stories you will never forget. He loved to entertain and just loved people in general. As a retired employee of Marshall County Gas District, Marcus (aka Mark, Redbone, Red) was proud to have participated in the growth and expansion of our community through the years. His status as “Mayor of Suckegg” was quite prominent. Redbone took fashion cues from no one. His signature every day look was all his: a plain white T-shirt designed by the fashion house Fruit of the Loom, his Liberty overalls paired with an over the top flannel shirt (even in JULY) and good sturdy work boots. Marcus traveled extensively. As long as it involved searching for a tractor, parts or just riding around with his cronies on countless missions to find a good lunch spot. Because of his unwavering belief in traditional funerals, his family will hold true to that belief. Visitation will be held at Guntersville Memorial Chapel, 1601 Henry St, Guntersville on Thursday, July 16th from 6-9 p.m. The funeral service will also be at Guntersville Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 17th at 2:00 p.m. with burial at Clear Springs Cemetery.
