Hazel Jeanette Ray Lang of Guntersville, was born December 3, 1937 in Etowah County to Roland Lemon Hammett and Amy Laura Rowan. Hazel lived for Jesus her entire life and saw him face to face on Friday March 6, 2020. She was surrounded by her family, who held her hand until she entered Heaven. Hazel married Junior Ray and had three sons; Dewayne (Suzanne), Neil (Jessica), and Kevin (Lisa) Ray. Her sons loved her dearly and cared for her until the time of her death. Hazel was employed at the Boaz Spinning Mill, Guntersville Spinning Mill, the Arrow Shirt Factory and the HD Lee plant. She operated a state approved home daycare for many years. She gave the children nicknames and loved them as her own. Most of them stayed in touch and even brought their own children to visit. As a child she took piano lessons and found joy in music her entire life. She attended the Guntersville Church of God and served as their pianist for many years. In her later years Hazel attended Baltimore Avenue Church of God and Rose Road Church of God. She worked in all areas of church ministry and sang in the choir. She participated in several ministries during her lifetime including a Nursing Home Ministry. She visited patients and shared the Gospel and songs with them for over 20 years. She married John Lang in 1996 and the served the Lord together until hi died in April, 2014. Hazel made each of her grandchildren feel special. She enjoyed being with them and her three great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by Carson (Abbey) Ray, Carlie Ray, Raven (Jared) Lamkin, Chelsea (Dillian) Alexander, Zach Ray, Kassie Ray, Natasha (Chris) Brittian, Kolton Ray, Frank Ray, Jana Beth Ray, Jones Brittain. Hazel always had a smile on her face and enjoyed bringing laughter to all around her. She treasured her friendships and always thought of Sue Duncan as a sister. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed cooking for others. She was famous for her vegetable soup, and chocolate cake. She loved decorating with flowers and loved to do decoration flowers. Hazel touched so many people during her lifetime and will be greatly missed until we see her again. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and 5 brothers, and 1 sister; Laymon Hammett, James Hammett, Buddy Hammett, Margaret (M.L.) Snead, Billy Hammett and Bobby Hammett. Her sister Fay (Jesse) Stracener helped to care for her during her illness. A special thank you to Louise Alexander and Debra Edwards King for showing your love and care to her. Her services were held on Monday March 9, at the Rose Road Church of God with Rev. Nellon Smith and Rev. Rick Douglas officiating. Pallbearers were Carson Ray, Kolton Ray, Zach Ray, Chris Brittain, Jared Lamkin, and Dillian Alexander. Burial was in the Pineview Cemetary. The family suggest memorial donations to Shepard's Cove Hospice.
