WIlliam Eddie KIng

Mr. William (Bill) Eddie King 92 of Guntersville passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018 at Donalson Care Center in Fayetteville, TN. As was his custom at family dinners, he left out without saying, “Goodbye”. He did not like the word, “goodbye.” Mr. King was a corporal in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan during World War II. He also was a staff sergeant in the U.S .Marine Corps at Midline in Korea. He noted that he left Korea the day the peace treaty was signed. The first King’s store in Marshall County was a rental building in Arab opened by Luther King and sons William and Hiram in 1948. In 1960 William King built the new King’s store building at 165 North Main Street in Arab that was opened until July 2000. The Guntersville Store was opened for 59 years. Brother Hiram operated it first. Later the brothers traded stores. Mr. King closed the Guntersville store on December 31, 2007. His hobbies included family genealogy, restoring antique cars, especially Packards and watching the ebb and flow on Wall Street. He also enjoyed tending climbing red roses on his fence. William was an avid reader of books from the local library, and was a football fan, especially of the Alabama Crimson Tide. He walked all over town for years and years, and got joy out of giving anonymously to family, friends, and many others. Mr. King is survived by Nieces: Jena Butler Broadway of Huntsville, Resa Pettus Self (Mike) of Fayetteville TN, Great Nephews: Robert (Bob) Broadway (Julie) of Huntsville , Jonathan Broadway (Tanya) of Huntsville, Great Niece Maria Self of Fayetteville TN, Sister-in-law: Robbie Cooper King of Madison, Nephew John David King of Madison Al, Great Great Nieces and Nephews: Madison Sheible , Kevin Broadway, Elizabeth Sheible, Landon Broadway, Summer Broadway, Hudson Broadway, Reese Broadway and Tinsley Broadway all of Huntsville, 6 First Cousins which include Austelene King McGee of Boaz, Grady King of Huntsville, Clyde King of Red Bay (previously of Moulton) Coy Michael of Rogersville and Coy’s sister Doris, and Erving King of Rogersville, along with other cousins. Preceded in death by his parents Luther and Lena King of Kingtown, AL as well as his Sister Louise King Butler (Grady), Brother John Hiram King, Sister Elaine King Pettus (Henry), niece Lisa Ann Pettus, Nephew –in- Law: Robert (Bob) Broadway Sr. Special thanks to Neena and the girls (his family at the Court House Café) ,Neighbors, John and Vincent, The 2nd Floor ER at Marshall Medical Center North, Marshall Medical Home Health Nurses Melissa and Ashley, Crestwood Hospital 4th Floor and ER,. Home Instead of Huntsville, care givers Jody and Brittney, and Donalson Care Center with their wonderful staff of nurses and care givers. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, November 29, 2018 from 6:00p.m. Until 8:00 p.m. at Guntersville Memorial Chapel A graveside service will be held Friday, November 30, 2018, 10 a.m.at Bluewater Cemetery in Killen Alabama, Lauderdale County. Officiating the service will be Reverend: Kenny Morgan of the Springfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church Pallbearers: Robert (Bob) Broadway, Jonathan Broadway, Kevin Broadway, and Mike Self.
