Rilla June Kitchens

Mrs. Rilla June Kitchens age 84 passed away at Marshall Manor Nursing Home and went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 3,2024. She was born at home on June 11,1940 to Grover and Gertrude Vaughn. She weighed a whopping 2lbs and was so tiny that she slept in a small wooden box. She was the oldest of 8 children. It is evident that God was molding her into a virtuous woman at an early age. When she was only 10, her mom was hospitalized for months. June had to take care of all her siblings and keep the household running. She devoted her entire life to serving God, her husband, children, family and friends. She loved to cook and was amazing at it and she welcomed all to her table. She loved spending time with family, reading her Bible, singing Gospel songs and going to Church. She was a natural mother to 3 but was a “momma” to many over the years. Everyone that knew her, knew she had a heart for God and Jesus. Her faith was an inspiration to many. Her life resembled that of the life of Job. She lost a son shortly after birth. She overcame breast cancer and a stroke that left her maimed on her left side. She loss 4 siblings over the years but the most heart wrenching was she endured losing her other 2 sons and husband within months of each other and yet her faith never wavered. You could see the hand of God all over her. She touched the lives of many and was loved by all that knew her. Her legacy of being selfless, loving and honoring our Lord will be remembered by her family and all who were Blessed to have ever crossed paths with her. She will be greatly missed yet we can rejoice as we know that she is now in the presence of the Lord. June is survived by her brother, Ronnie (Linda) Vaughn, sister, Sue Sims, grandsons, Jordan and Robert Kitchens and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Gertrude Vaughn; husband, Bobbie Kitchens; sons, Darren, Bruce and Barry Kitchens; siblings, Gary Vaughn, Brenda Slaton, Margaret Blackwell, Richard Vaughn and Roger Vaughn. Services will be held at Guntersville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, October 8,2024 at 2pm with J.L. Colquitt and Steven Swords officiating. The visitation will be from 1-2pm at the funeral home. The burial will be in Rehobeth Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers: Jamie Sims, Jacob Sims, Shane Vaughn, Ethan Vaughn, Trey Vaughn and Chris Kitchens. Honorary pallbearers: Kenneth Kitchens and Junior Kitchens.
