Oscar Larry "Smiley" Chambers

Oscar Larry “Smiley” Chambers passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on September 4, 1954, in Oneonta, Blount County, Alabama to Eugene Chambers and Doris Windsor Chambers. He graduated from J.B. Pennington High School and looked forward to the yearly reunions with his classmates until his health deteriorated. He entered the U.S. Army on January 10, 1972, and did his basic training at Ft. Polk, LA and graduated as tank turret mechanic. He married Deborah Kaye Stephens from Guntersville, Alabama on January 21, 1974, and the two lived in Kitzingen, Germany during his time in the Army. After leaving the Army, he spent a short time working at Redstone Arsenal before he entered the car business full time. In the Fall, you could always find him at a college football game. When he wasn’t cheering on the Tide, you could usually find him posting about food and new places he found to eat. He loved spending time with family and friends eating and cutting up around a dinner table. He leaves behind a wife Deborah Chambers of Harvest, AL; Sons Wesley (Marsha) of Guntersville, AL, and Stephen (Alicia) of Madison, AL; grandchildren Cohen and Neva; sister Linda Dorning of Blountsville, AL; a host of nephews, nieces, special brothers, and sisters (Benefield, Graben, Griffith, and Whitehead). Smiley was preceded in death by his father Eugene Chambers; Mother Doris Windsor Chambers; Sister Wanda Sterling; Brother-in-Law Jimmy Dorning; Nephew Scott “Chubbs” Dorning. Pallbearers: Lee Cobb, Robert Pritchard, Jimmy Ledbetter, Donnie Barrineau, Bernardo Lucio, Kenny Lackey, and Ricky Jones. Honorary Pallbearers: Drew Dorning, Tommy Whitehead, G.C. Sterling, Michael Graben, Tony Dorning, P.J. Sterling, Greg Griffith, Randy Whitehead, Tyler Sterling, Dakota Dorning, Robby Benefield, David “Hog” Harris, Clarence “Shorty” Head, Randy Bowerman, Brice Posey, Kenny Washburn, Roman Chomskis and Eddie Dorning.
