Catherine C Cameron

Catherine Clemons Cameron went home to be with her Lord on April 2, 2026. She loved her Jesus, her children and her extended family and friends. She was born to Grady Clemons and Tennie Law Clemons near Scottsboro, Alabama, on November 22, 1933, and was 92 years old. All her siblings predeceased her: Bill Clemons, Rena Hammett, Betty Jean Sullivan, Iris Ann Clemons and Mary Elizabeth Clemons. Her grandson, Jason Atkins, also predeceased her. She was not in good health for several years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, counted cross-stitch and all kinds of needlework, reading and Sudoku, jigsaw and other puzzles. She enjoyed genealogy until she became too disabled to prowl through old written records and cemeteries. She was married to James Robert Cameron, Jr. on June 23, 1951, until his death on February 23, 2005. When she was able, Catherine was active in Bakers Chapel Baptist Church since 1960. She taught all age groups of Sunday School except the Men’s Class. She worked with Girls’ Auxiliary until some of the girls reached the highest level. Catherine and Martha Mason drove the girls to different churches all over Marshall County for Sunday afternoon meetings. She also worked with the Baptist Women groups and served as Church Librarian for many years. She was instrumental in getting all the former pastor’s pictures to display in the hallway of the church and has been the historian of the church for many years. Since October 2013, Catherine served as the Claysville News Correspondent of the Advertiser Gleam. Sam Harvey hired her, and Anthony Campbell continues as editor and publisher. For 26 years, Catherine worked as bookkeeper and pharmacy helper at the old Rexall Drug Store with owners William Benefield and Mervin McCormick. When William sold the store, she moved with him to what is now CVS in 1996 as a Pharmacy Technician until she retired in 2001 due to family illnesses. With her daughter, she enjoyed many travels to other states and other countries. Her survivors include: her children Gail Cameron Zeigler of Mobile, Bobby (Sandy) Cameron and Philip (Cindy) Cameron both of Arab; her grandsons Andy Cameron and Josh Jennings; her great-grandsons Ethan (Caitlin) Jennings and Cameron Jennings. Surviving nieces and nephews are David (Betty) Sullivan, Tony (Marla) Sullivan, Sandy Sullivan, Nancy Graham, Glenda (Clarence) Potter, Faye Powell, Mary Ruth (Dena) Hazelwood and some cousins and a host of friends. Memorial services will be held at Guntersville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 7. Visitation will take place from 11:00AM to 1:00PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00PM. Rev. Terry Sharp will be officiating Burial will take place in Crestview Cemetery. Special thanks go to her beloved children and nieces and nephews as well as special friends Frances Wrenn, Judy D. Sims, the Roberts family and her church family. Without their care and love, she declares she would not have made it as far as she did. Pallbearers are Andy Cameron, Josh Jennings, David Sullivan, Tony Sullivan, Frankie Leath and Charles Graham.
